As One Does at 50

When this wicked virus first started spreading around the globe and we went into our first lockdown, I sewed masks. I sewed a lot of masks. I sewed enough masks to mask my entire extended family and families of a few friends.

Then I got bored with sewing masks and it was spring so I gardened. I had the absolute best garden ever in 2020. We were eating baby lettuce every day and all of my flower gardens were beautiful.

August rolled around, we weren't in lockdown anymore but anyone reading the news knew it was only a matter of time. The garden wasn't needing much attention, or at least I wasn't giving it much. It was too early to put the yard to bed. I was bored again.

Dealing with boredom is hard, dealing with anxiety is harder. Dealing with my anxiety over the situation, worrying about my family's health and my own health and trying to cope with a situation largely outside of my control while bored is just a whole new level of hard.

Through all of it I kept wishing I still had Sims 2. Spending hours meticulously in control of a sim household seemed like the perfect way to get through a pandemic. So I bought Sims 3. Turns out playing Sims is absolutely the best way to get through a pandemic or any other situation you can't control.

Almost a year later, I have most of the expansion packs and a whole lot of store content and I'm a little embarrassed to admit this 50 year old spends an awful lot of time playing Sims.
