I have a girl cold.

I have a cold and I'm not happy about it. It's not a man cold either. It's a girl cold. You know what a girl cold is? It's the one where you have to cross your legs for every damn sneeze or cough. Men don't have to worry about that now do they?

Friday night I was stuffy - I thought it was allergies but no. I woke up Saturday morning with a full blown head cold.

I was raised by the mantra if you feel like shit, you might as well be at work and feel like shit. Colds are not supposed to happen on Saturdays. They're supposed to happen on Mondays or Tuesdays. When I'm working. Not right before my one day off of the week.

My ears are itchy. I want to stick a knitting needle in them itchy.

I'm coughing all over the place, which means I'm running to the bathroom constantly. Yet there's always more pee the next time I cough - 2 seconds later.

I'm also sneezing frequently adding to the pee dilemma.

Wanna know something that is really not cool? Having a sneezing fit hit while you're eating mashed potatoes.

Just be glad you weren't sitting in front of me.

  1. When I'm sick, I usually go into work, then when I'm feeling better, I call in sick. I figure I might as well enjoy the time off ;)

Hope you feel better soon :) x

    1. I rarely call in sick - only if there is a need for toilet facilities. Of course sometimes trying to get a turn in my bathroom is harder than trying to get a turn in the bathroom at work.

  2. I name my colds after whoever gave it to me (usually one of my preschoolers). Then I can hiss the name when I'm feeling particularly uncomfortable and sorry for myself. Last year I had SEVERAL named "Jenna." I shuffled around the house hissing "Jennnnaaaaaaa" and it made me feel better.

    1. Usually I get one cold a year. In October and I can live with that. Getting two in one winter is absolutely unacceptable.

  3. Ugh, cough-pee. That's the worst. It's one of those things they never tell you about.

  4. I was raised on the same mantra. That was before i became a teacher in the inner city. My students will eat me alive if I'm not at my best.

    1. I can understand that - my kids usually eat me alive when I've got a cold. I just can't generate the same volume when I've got a cold.

  6. I'm not the type to play up a cold. Nope, no "man-colds" for me. Plus, I don't like calling in sick either. Unless it's really bad, my wife has to force me to stay in bed.

    1. Eventually at this job I'll have sick days but for now, if I take a day off I have to use one of my lieu days. I hate to do that - I would much rather use them for a healthy day off.

    1. What's that old saying? They get better in a week and a half if you see your doctor and about 10 days if you don't?

  8. My thoughts EXACTLY on when a cold should happen! I would so much rather feel like crap at work than on one of my days off. I get so mad if I get sick on a weekend...argh. Hope you feel better soon!!

    1. Sick should never happen on a weekend. Or vacation.

  9. My outdoor cat is super sick right now. Of course we have freaken blizzard outside, so I felt bad and brought him inside. Bad idea. He wants attention and love all the time, sounds like he is dying, and keeps sneezing all over everything. Including the dogs food and the refrigerator. I think it would be easier if I was sick instead.

    1. I've always had indoor/outdoor cats and sometimes had them get sick like that. It's really bad in my neighborhood because it's kind of built up, but poor and there are two cat ladies in the neighborhood. So in future, no more outdoor kitties for me. There's just too many un-vetted cats around spreading illness.

  12. Ugh, colds are the worst. It's that half sick thing that kills me. You aren't bed ridden, so you feel obligated to do stuff even though you feel like hell.

    Feel better soon!

    1. So it's not really the half sick thing that's the problem - it's the feeling obligated that's causing all the misery.

    2. You're right about feeling obligated. It will make you feel worse every time.
